Game Designer & Project Manager
5 days (May 2017)
Never Ending Disco Love is a twin-stick shooter video game. The player controls a love van which has to grab as many people as he can in the allotted time with the “Grab Hand” while pushing away the cops, who are trying to stop the player from spreading the love with the “Push Hand”.
We had the intention to propose a nervous game, yet fun and accessible, in a setting that automatically puts a smile on the face of the player. Who doesn’t enjoy the 70’s?
WHAT WENT WELL
We already knew each other, having worked on various projects together before, but not in this configuration. We knew the flaws and the strong points of everyone in the team, so we organized ourselves in a very efficient way.
The vibes of the group were so good, we didn’t even realize we had worked that much at the end of the week, even though Never Ending Disco Love was a very ambitious and challenging project for us.
WHAT WENT WRONG
We were very tired, even before the week started, because of other school projects which caused painful crunches. Hence, we had a short period of time to get in the mood for the project.
On the other hand, we had issues with the prototype, due to the technical challenges that the programmers of the team undertook.
WHAT I LEARNED
As we wanted to do an ambitious game in a short period of time, I learned how to deal with efficiency with our different scopes and our expectations. The team was tired before the project started so I also had to motivate my teammates to make them want to give their utter best for our game.
